Sport is an important part of life at Holywell. We want to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
At Holywell, we follow strategic planning to ensure that PE skills are taught coherently over time in an exciting and dynamic way. We commit to as many sporting events as we can and feel strongly that engaging in sporting events alongside other schools is a key part of our curriculum. We deliver two hours of timetabled PE and other activities to every class each week. Extra-curricular sports clubs, either delivered by school staff or external sports clubs, are also offered to all children throughout their time at school.
We continue to offer regular swimming lessons to our children, with strong belief that being near the coast, swimming and lifeguarding skills are a key part of our curriculum entitlement for our pupils.
Our children are proud to participate strongly in annual cross country events, such as Trust-wide cross country and local sports events. We make every effort for our children to participate and perform - our small size does not stop us!
In dance, we follow strategic planning, but also add in popular activities using Just Dance to engage our children. In Gymnastics, we encourage all children at every level to be able to use apparatus with confidence and developing core strength. We are regular participants in local Rounders, Cricket and Tennis festivals and also make sure that we engage with sports fundraisers. This coming Autumn we are signed up to the Final Mile fundraiser - a local running fundraiser that encourages staff and children to run 12 miles in total, with the final mile being run together locally. Together, we will be committing to raise vital funds for the Children's Hospice, a charity that is close to our hearts.
